Reflecting on a Shared Educational Experience—and Challenges of the Future
By Dan Sheeran,
I can still smell the locker room below the bleachers. If I listen carefully, I can still hear Coach Teeters and Coach Henne talking baseball strategy as I dress for spring practice.
When I think of my time at St. Charles, I have to reflect on my memories of the past, present and future. My memories of the past are shared with so many other alumni over the last one hundred years and the present can been seen in the tile-lined halls where today’s leaders walk. But the future has yet to be written.
As alumni, we have the power to influence the future and help the students and leaders of tomorrow become the men God intended through our generosity and intentional planning. My memories of St. Charles began when I was a kid, well before my time there, from 1977 through 1981.
My dad attended SC and graduated in 1957. Knowing that he walked the same halls, attended mass in the same chapels and actually had some of the same teachers I had made my time at St. Charles very special. It is a bond I still hold dear to my heart.
Do you remember setting the gym up for bingo after basketball practice? I do. How about Monte Carlo nights in the gym, not to mention all the great CCL basketball games played there? We even had a kazoo band in the late 1970’s.
As you recall similar memories of your time at St. Charles, I’d like to ask you to commit to the future of St. Charles—as alumni, as givers and as brothers. The current tuition remains competitive but presents challenges for many families. Please consider helping, as I did, with a gift provided through your estate or as part of a planned gift.
The education and experience that we were all lucky enough to enjoy do not come easily or cheaply. The leadership at St. Charles has done an amazing job maintaining a high bar while fostering faith and leadership in our young men. The facilities are second to none, the teachers are solid role models and great educators, and the student body represents the best in central Ohio.
Please consider a financial gift to St. Charles so together we can help ‘build better men’ well into the future.
